It’s summertime and the lectionary brings us the farming parables. Last week, it was the parable of the sower who sows his seeds on various types of soils – with various results. This week, Jesus gives us a parable of seeds and weeds – or, as the older translations put it, the wheat and the tares, an older English word which meant “weeds”.
